LDS priesthood session to be broadcast to all

A Mormon Church conference session that’s previously been limited to men will now be broadcast live.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Tuesday that the priesthood session at the Oct. 5-6 conference in Salt Lake City would be available on channels and online, including LDS.org, the Mormon Channel and BYUtv.

Church officials say the move aims to make the twice-yearly General Conference accessible to members around the globe.

The session is reserved for members of the priesthood, which includes most males in the church 12 years old and older. Session broadcasts were previously password-protected.

Some female church members have been pushing for the priesthood to be opened to women, but they tell the Deseret News they were denied tickets to attend the session in person.

Local News 8 will broadcast the regular sessions of conference (not priesthood session) as a service to the community. The schedule is as follows:

Oct. 5 and 6:

— 10 a.m. to noon: LDS General Conference (live)
— 2 to 4 p.m.: LDS General Conference (live)
