Rigby man dies in Idaho Falls crash

Police have released the name of the man killed in Monday’s crash on Channing Way and Sunnyside Road.

He is 22-year-old Byron T. Sorensen of Rigby, Idaho Falls police said Tuesday.

Sorensen was traveling west on Sunnyside just before 5 p.m. when the Jeep Cherokee he was driving collided with a Dodge Challenger driven by 21-year-old Antonio Nunez of Idaho Falls, police said. Nunez was turning left onto Channing from the eastbound lane of Sunnyside.

The collision caused the Jeep to roll hit a bicyclist, 37-year-old Jason P. Burnett of Idaho Falls. Burnett was standing on the sidewalk.

Sorensen was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Burnett was also transported to EIRMC to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Nunez was treated at the accident.

This crash remains under investigation by the Idaho Falls Police Department.
