Traffic stop turns in to pursuit

A traffic stop north of Ucon turned in to a pursuit for Idaho State Police Friday evening. The incident, which led to an arrest, started at 5:28 p.m. ISP said officers stopped a 2006 Pontiac on US Highway 20 near milepost 316 for speeding. The driver was Kordell M. Stucki of Rigby.

ISP said Stucki didn’t cooperate with the officer when he asked him for identification. The officer said Stucki then drove off at a high rate of speed and in a reckless manner. Troopers pursued the vehicle as Stucki exited US 20 into Ucon.

Troopers said Stucki then drove into a residential area and pulled into a driveway in an attempt to hide from them. When Stucki was found by troopers, they said he tried to flee from the area.

One trooper said he feared for the safety of the public and used a pursuit intervention technique to stop Stucki. When they finally stopped the vehicle, they said Stucki began verbally challenging them and was taken into custody. He was charged with felony eluding and resisting arrest. ISP was assisted by the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and the Ucon Police Department.
