Site chooses best Idaho towns

Idaho is famous for more than just its potatoes after a website survey named Rigby and Ammon among the best cities for young families in Idaho.

Out of the 63 cities, Rigby ranked second and Ammon ranked fourth. Many parents said from groceries to housing, they wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

Security is high on many of their lists, as well as a great place for their kids to attend school. But many parents believe that affordable housing and lower grocery prices take the cake. Affordability has more people moving to the quaint town of Rigby, which is why Zions Bank’s Natalie Michaelson said she has more people applying for mortgages.

“A lot of people say they can buy more house for the money here (in Rigby). Homes are usually around $125,000,” said Michaelson.

Michaelson said even though people pick Rigby as a financially responsible area to live, she thinks it has more to do with the community.

“I think people pick Rigby over the larger surrounding areas because of the small-town feel. Its a great place to raise a family. It’s very close to Idaho Falls and Rexburg. It’s more of a country feel,” she said.

It’s a country feel that makes grocery shopping less of a headache with lower prices than most cities. More affordable groceries can be found at stores like Broulims. Store director Daryl James said they’ve lowered their prices on more than 2,500 items.

“We keep our prices low because we know families are struggling and we want to keep them happy. We want to keep them as a good customer,” said James.
