Wolf season opens in Wyo.

The wolf hunting season is under way in Wyoming.

Seasons in each of the state’s wolf hunt areas began Tuesday and end Dec. 31. The exception is Hunt Area 12 south of Jackson, which opens Oct. 15.

Hunters harvesting wolves in areas where wolves are classified as trophy game animals are required to report the kill within 24 hours, Wyoming Game and Fish said Wednesday. Successful hunters have five days to present the skull and pelt to a game warden biologist or other personnel at a Wyoming Game and Fish Department regional office for registration.

Wolves in trophy hunting areas are managed under a mortality quota system. The hunting season in each specific area will remain open until the quota for the area is reached.

In all other areas of the state, wolves are designated as predatory animals and no license is required. There are also no closed seasons or bag limits.
