Women get outfitted to interview

Catholic Charities of Idaho, Stevens-Henager College, Candlewood Suites and LaQuinta Inns & Suites are teaming up to help local women find jobs.

On Friday afternoon, they held the event “Outfitted to Interview” for 50 local women. The event included three 50 minute classes, where women learned how to approach an interview. They also learned how to write a resume, how to make a good first impression and how to dress. There were about 15 women in each class.

“There are three classes: one on writing a resume, one on improving credit, one on how to interview and one on how to look,” said Angela Hays Carey, Stevens-Henager College employee.

After taking the three classes, women could pick from racks of suits, tops and shoes. Carey said so many clothes were donated women could get two outfits. One for the first day of work and one for the interview. Some suits still had a hefty price tag left on them.

Attendees said they enjoyed their time and would come again next year.

“I think it is great that people can come to events like this and have a whole outfit. They walk away with skills to write a resume and to stand out,” said Kaley Peterson.

“You have people that are getting to know each other. You have people in the community who are saying, ‘Hey I really want to be a part of the professional world,'” said Wendee Monson.

This is the first time the event was held in Idaho Falls. The 50 women who showed up didn’t have to pay for anything. Organizers said they’re thinking about doing the event next year.
