‘Deep Love’ rock opera coming to Rexburg, Idaho Falls
Rexburg native Jon Peter Lewis, who appeared on “American Idol” and “The Voice” is back in town for a big production. Along with over two dozen other performers, they will perform a rock opera in Rexburg and Idaho Falls.
They stopped in Pocatello Friday to give us a preview of their rock opera,”Deep Love.”
So what is a rock opera?
“Instead of it being classical music, it’s folk and rock and roll and American blues and all kinds of modern music,” said Lewis, who plays Old Bones in the show.
The group says this is a perfect show to see during Halloween.
“You hear the word ‘opera’ and you’re immediately turned off because it sounds like this boring four-hour-long classical venture,” said Amy Whitcomb, who plays Florence in the show. “This is totally different. It’s really like a rock and roll show.”
“It showed an incredible amount of depth and maturity and skill in songwriting,” Lewis said. “It was kind of like finding this little gem in Idaho.”
“When they (Lewis and band partner Ryan Hayes) asked me to be part of the rock opera, I was already in,” said Savannah Berry, who plays Constance in Deep Love. “I love them, and after hearing the music I was just totally sold on the show.”
“It’s hands-down, the best thing I’ve ever been a part of,” said Lewis. “You won’t regret it. It’s the best thing you could do on Halloween, I promise.”
Lewis, Berry and Whitcomb all said it’s only proper to show up to the theater in your funeral clothes as well.
