FFA asking for $2.24 million

The Idaho Future Farmers of America Association, along with Alumni Association and the FFA Foundation are asking the Idaho Legislature for $2.24 million in funding.

It has been 15 years since the state increased funding for secondary agricultural education.

At Shelley High School, more than half of the student body is enrolled in some kind of agricultural class.

One of the students’ advisers, Vincent Wray, says this funding is important for developing programs and giving kids more opportunities.

“Farming is becoming extremely high tech. In fact, you won’t hardly find any farmers who don’t have a major college degree and know exactly what they are doing and how to do it in the best possible way. The only way to give those opportunities to our upcoming students is to spend money,” said Wray.
