Man pleads not guilty in toddler’s death

A man accused of killing his girlfriend’s young daughter pleaded not guilty.

Antonio Marcos Bautista appeared before 7th District Judge Joel E. Tingey in Idaho Falls for arraignment on a charge of first-degree murder.

Idaho Falls police began investigating the death of 16-month-old Esmiie Quezada in December after the child was found unresponsive at a home in the 500 block of West Shelley. She later died at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

In Bautista’s preliminary hearing last month, a doctor said the girl died of a skull fracture caused by blunt force trauma.

A jury trial is set for January.
