Luke Jones

Luke Jones joined the Local News 8 and Eyewitness News team as a reporter in October 2013. He joins us from Neighborhood Network News in Boston, where he served as a reporter for two years while attending Boston University.

During his more than eight years as a reporter, Luke has covered a wide range of stories including the Boston Marathon bombings and ensuing manhunt in Watertown, Mass.; the 2008 presidential election; Hurricanes Sandy and Ike; the BP oil spill; and the largest recession of the century. He also reported extensively on the Arab-American reaction to the Arab Spring uprisings of 2011, and the protests of Iranian-Americans against election fraud following Iran’s 2009 presidential election.

Luke began his news career at the age of 12 as a reporter at KPFT Radio in Houston. He got the job after doing voice-overs for station promos. While there, Luke also hosted an award-winning environmental news segment. In addition to reporting, for five years Luke also co-hosted Youth Radio, a teen-oriented radio news magazine, tackling national and international topics such as the Arab Spring, gang violence in Chicago’s South Side, the impact of the recession on summer jobs for teens as well as the latest pop culture news. In that role, he interviewed young recording artists and groups including Jacob Latimore and Astra Heights.

Thankful for all the opportunities he’d received, Luke wanted to extend these opportunities to other young people. In 2007, he co-founded a nonprofit that provides free after-school media production and writing workshops to young people in low-income communities throughout the Houston area.

In his spare time, Luke enjoys working out, swimming and playing tennis.

Originally from Houston, Texas, Luke is a dual citizen of both the United States and Great Britain.
