Man arrested after co-worker shot in field

A man was shot in a Paul potato field Tuesday.

Rupert police and Minidoka County deputies were called around 2:15 p.m. for a shooting. They found Encornacion Duarte-Jabalera, 31, lying on the ground near a tractor.

He was transported to Minidoka Memorial Hospital and flown to Portneuf Medical Center. He is in good condition, hospital officials said.

Authorities said Duarte-Jabalera had been shot by a co-worker, Rogelio Munoz Chavez, 36 . Both men are from Paul.

Police located Munoz Chavez’s abandoned work truck in Rupert and found him hiding in sagebrush a half mile away.

Munoz Chavez was arrested and sent to the Mini-Cassia Criminal Justice Center. He will be charged with aggravated battery with a weapons enhancement, according to a news release.
