How cold is too cold for school?
A few districts said they close when it is 20 below zero, but shutting down also depends where the district is located.
They also look at temperatures across the region and take into consideration how long a child will have to wait outside for the bus.
“We don’t necessarily close schools because the windchill is 20 below. There has to be a combination of temperature and wind that we feel like is excessive enough to become a significant problem,” said Director of Safe Schools John Pymm.
Fremont and Teton County school districts were closed Friday. Administrators suggest to call your child’s school if you’re unsure whether classes will be held.
