Local middle school wins $20,000
One local school won a good chunk of change this week. Sandcreek Middle School will receive $20,000 worth of Samsung equipment. The school is a state winner in the “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow” contest.
Science teacher Mike Jarvis submitted the application. He highlighted the school’s success with the science, technology, engineering and math program, known as STEM.
“We just want to make our school better, we want to make everything more technology (based), kids already know how to use all that stuff, so we need to have it in the schools so we can,” said Jarvis.
Sandcreek Middle School will now make a short video to submit to the national contest. It could win up to another $140,000 in equipment. That winner will be announced in the spring.
