Scam targets utility customers

The Idaho Falls Police Department is warning people to beware of scam artists trying to collect utility bill money.

The scam artist threatens to shut off electric service unless the victim will pay his or her bill immediately with a credit card. Police warn when it is cold outside and the power is shut off, you might be tempted to pull your credit card out. They say that is the worst thing to do.

“We haven’t had anyone that has fallen victim to it but these things are out there so they need to be aware and take some precaution,” said Joelyn Hansen, public information officer for the Idaho Falls Police Department.
