Power restored to nearly 3,000 Rocky Mountain customers

Power was restored this afternoon to thousands of Rocky Mountain Power customers in Ammon and other parts of Eastern Idaho.

The outage occurred around 10:30 a.m., affecting approximately 2,799 customers. Local News 8 has learned some church services had to be canceled because of the outage.

Crews were at the substation at 49th South and 45th East in Ammon this morning working to restore power.

Ammon resident Jared Allen said he recalls hearing a loud bang before being plunged into darkness.

“I was just out looking after my animals and I heard this great big bang,” said Allen. “It actually sounded like an accident, and so I wondered what happened and that’s the reason why me and my wife came out here.”

Rocky Mountain said two fuses and two lightning arrestors blew out at the substation.

At 2:27 p.m., Rocky Mountain reported that all power had been restored.
