Local nonprofit needs help this holiday season

Nonprofit organizations that help house and feed the homeless could receive a $200,000 funding boost this month through the Avenues for Hope Housing challenge.

Thirty-five nonprofits are participating in the challenge, including the Idaho Falls Rescue Mission. The nonprofit that gets the most donations within its region, will see that money double. The director of Idaho Falls Rescue Mission said during the winter season is when they need the most help.

“Our cold weather hit us a bit earlier this year, so we’re seeing a big increase in the number of people that are coming to stay with us,” said David McKinney.

The challenge goes through the end of the month. Donors are encouraged to donate here http://www.avenuesforhope.org/.
