DUI’s in our area low after New Year’s Eve

Pocatello Police report one DUI arrest after a man reportedly crashed his vehicle into a parked car, causing it to flip on its side. Idaho Falls Police report two DUI arrests along with situations involving underage drinking.

Overall, many of the counties we spoke with today say it was a quiet evening for New Year’s Eve, saying it was a great way to ring in the new year.

“For anybody that does stay sober, and if you don’t drive when you’re buzzed or intoxicated, we definitely appreciate that,” said Patrol Sgt. Tim Dillon with the Pocatello Police. “You’re saving lives and you’re keeping people safe.”

Dillon said they are seeing a decrease in DUI’s in general in the area.

“We also appreciate all the partners out there that give the free rides home. That certainly has to help,” Dillon said. “I think there would be a lot more DUI’s if there weren’t people giving those free rides home.”
