Test: Mystery dust at senior center not hazardous

The mysterious dust that led to the closure of the Greater Pocatello Senior Center this week is not hazardous, according to the City of Pocatello’s findings.

Jerilynn Mecham, the center’s general manager, said Friday tests of powder-like substance came back negative. Although the substance hasn’t been specifically identified, it is not hazardous.

The center will open its doors Tuesday after repair crews close off the affected air vents.

The dust was found during routine cleaning and was coming from one of the vents. Out of safety concerns, the center was closed Wednesday.
