IF Firefighters make use of old building

Condemned buildings are helping the Idaho Falls Fire Department with training.

Firefighters participated in ventilation training on the old Melaleuca store building Monday. Firemen where able to break through the ceiling of the building using the most efficient techniques.

Capt. Brian Moncur said old buildings are hard to come by, but are essential in making sure firefighters are prepared to ventilate a home during a fire.

“You can read about it or watch it on videos, but until you actually get to do it and do the actual work, you don’t know how much work it really is to peel off a roof and cut a hole in a building,” he said.

If you are demolishing an old building or home and would like to donate it for practice, contact the Idaho Falls Fire Department at 612-8495.
