IRS kicks off tax season
Tax filing season officially started Friday.
The owner of Liberty Tax in Idaho Falls, Darin Thurman, said there are advantages to filing early. If you are expecting a refund, you will get it faster. Early filing can also help prevent mistakes when you are in a rush.
Thurman said he can also see mistakes when people file on their own.
“People try to file on their own and it is tough for people who haven’t really been exposed to tax to make sure they’re hitting all of the credits that they are entitled to,” he said.
Apr. 15 is the deadline to file taxes. Idahoans can file state and federal taxes for free through the Idaho State Tax Commission website, http://tax.idaho.gov/.
