N.Y. man dies on Hwy 20 after car hits snowmobile
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said a New York man died on Highway 20 in Island Park Saturday night after a car struck his snowmobile.
The incident happened a little after 5:15 p.m. about a half-mile north of Island Park Lodge. Deputies said Norman Zullin, of Long Island, New York, was driving his snowmobile along a designated snowmobile crossing, but when he reached Highway 20, he failed to yield to traffic.
“Either the snowmobile didn’t stop at the stop sign at the trail crossing or stopped and then proceeded without clearance from the other vehicle,” said Fremont County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy Jeffrey Davis.
Zullin, who was wearing a helmet, died instantly. The occupants of the car, Jerry and Grace Fisher, were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The sheriff’s office said one of the victim’s friends admitted he and the victim had been drinking earlier Saturday evening, but deputies say they don’t know if alcohol was a factor in the crash. The sheriff’s office said it’s awaiting the results of a blood test from the victim.
Deputies said no charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
