Virgina man critical after Island Park snowmobile crash

A Virginia man is listed in critical condition at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls after his snowmobile crashed into a tree at around 3 a.m. Monday morning.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s office said Michael Carmody,49, of Appomattox, Virginia was riding his snowmobile on a groomed trail near the Island Park Scout Camp when he lost control and struck the tree. He was thrown from the snowmobile and suffered injuries to his face and head. He was wearing a helmet.

He was transported by a medical sled to a staging area near Pond’s Lodge. He was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by Madison County ambulance.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
