Repeat sex offender gets life in prison

A repeat sex offender from Idaho Falls will spend the rest of his life in prison.

In November, a Bonneville County jury found Jeffrey Lewis Dunn, 53, guilty of three felony counts of lewd conduct with a child under the age of 16. On Monday, Judge Dane Watkins Jr. sentenced Dunn to a fixed life sentence on all counts.

Dunn was arrested in November 2012. Police said he sexually abused a 14-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl, possibly starting when they were 6 years old. Deputy Prosecutor Danny Clark said he was seen as a “father figure” to them.

Two of his victims were in court Monday, Clark said. One spoke of the trauma she went through and expected to go through for the rest of her life. The victims said they were pleased with the court’s decision.

According to the Idaho Sex Offender Registry, Dunn was convicted in 1996 for lewd conduct with a child under 16 in Bonneville County. For that reason he was found guilty on a felony enhancement charge, and got an additional 15-year sentence.
