S.M. Stoller Corp. under new ownership

Department of Energy Contractor S.M. Stoller Corp. has been acquired by Huntington Ingall Industries for an undisclosed amount.

Idaho Falls is just one of the 20 locations Stoller has throughout the nation. Stoller is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Huntington Ingall Industries, and it will operate under its Virginia-based Newport News Shipbuilding division.

Peter Diakun is the NNS’ vice president of energy programs. He was in Idaho Falls Tuesday afternoon to help make the formal announcement.

“For us, it’s just a great marriage to continue and grow in the D.O.E. marketspace,” said Diakun.

Nick Lombardo, Stoller’s president also helped make the announcement in Idaho Falls. He said the Idaho Falls is a large part of the company’s operation, because of its contracts with the DOE at the Idaho National Laboratory.

Stoller and NNS have made bids on projects together in the past; however they weren’t successful.

“What that allowed us to do was get to know the shipbuilders and what they’re capabilities are, and what’s even more unique is how similar the cultures are,” said Lombardo.

Don’t expect any drastic changes, though. All of Stoller’s current contracts, employment situations, and things of that nature are unaffected.

“We want to maintain the name, we want to maintain the great customer relationships, and employee base that are there,” said Diakun.

Tuesday evening, employees and community members had a chance to get acquainted with each other at the Hilton Garden Inn. Lombardo said he and the company’s employees are excited for all NNS has to offer.

“Engineering expertise, nuclear expertise, a wherewithal from both the financial and the technical side that Stoller could have never gotten on its own,” said Lombardo. “It’s great for the company.”
