Police: Teen threatens shooting at Jackson Hole High
A 17-year-old boy is in custody in connection with a threatening note found at Jackson Hole High School on Thursday.
In a joint news conference with the Teton County School District, Teton County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson Police Department, Undersheriff Robert Gilliam said the note was found by a student who reported it to school staff around 11:45 a.m.
The teenage suspect was taken into custody shortly before 6 p.m. after being interviewed by detectives.
Gilliam did not elaborate on the note, but he did say it threatened a school shooting Friday and was “very specific in nature.”
“Our priority is the health and safety of all of our students, teachers and other personnel that work with our students on a daily basis,” said Teton County School Superintendent Pam Shea.
Shea said that if parents wanted to have their students stay at home Friday, the schools would support that decision and grant the student an excused absence.
Law enforcement will have an increased presence in the areas around all schools in the county on Friday.
Gilliam emphasized that the investigation was still “fluid,” and the suspect is innocent until proven guilty.
