Proposed Urban Renewal District in Pocatello

The city of Pocatello is starting the process to create a new urban renewal district, hopefully improving the area without increasing property taxes.

The area begins at Stansbury St. and goes southeast down 5th Ave. to end just after Shores Rd.

The Pocatello Development Authority will review the area and develop a plan for its improvement, then the Planning and Zoning Commission will review the plan and give their recommendation to the Pocatello City Council, at which time the councilpersons will decide.

That process is expected to take several months, then afterward changes could start to happen as early as within a year. The plan can only be in place for 20 years.
