Rocky Mountain Power completes repairs at substation

Rocky Mountain Power has finished its repair project on the Goshen substation.

The utility, which serves much of eastern Idaho, announced Tuesday that the repairs to the transmission system were completed Sunday – two weeks ahead of schedule. It had warned that power outages could result throughout this phase of the project, which started Feb. 11. It said no power outages resulted because of the project in February.

The construction initially started at the substation Dec. 4, but Rocky Mountain Power had to temporarily cut off electricity for more than 50,000 customers to prevent an even bigger outage if another problem would have developed on the transmission system, it said.

The substation serves customers for Rocky Mountain Power, Idaho Falls City Power, Fall River Electric and Lower Valley Electric.

Some construction will continue at the substation through May, and there may be a potential for outages during a short period in April.
