FBI investigating vandalism

Today the FBI is asking for the public’s help in its investigation of three Chubbuck churches that were vandalized in early November.

On the morning of November 7, the Chubbuck Police Department found three Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints buildings had been vandalized with graffiti on the building walls overnight.

Now, FBI investigators are calling this a hate crime.

“What a hate crime would be designated as, is either vandalism or violence or something against a specific group,” FBI Special Agent Bill Facer said. “Based upon the information that we’re looking at, this may be considered a hate crime.”

Police initially suspected this was an act of juvenile delinquency and not a hate crime, and today the police department said they don’t have any new leads in the case they can release quite yet since everything is still under investigation.

Facer said a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrests and convictions of those responsible.

If you have any information, you can call the FBI office in Boise at 208.344.7843, the Salt Lake City FBI at 801.579.1400, or the Chubbuck Police Department at 208.237.7172.
