Bikes hit the slopes

Kelly Canyon teamed up with Bills Bike Shop and hit the slopes Tuesday afternoon with fat bikes.

The shop and designers from the Specialized bike company tested out new bikes, which have wider, 4-inch tires to give more traction in the snow.

The new bikes have been two years in the making.

“You know, right now it’s new, cutting-edge technology, and it’s hard to explain the concepts to a lot of people on the plane: ‘You’re going to go ride your mountain bike in the snow – what?’ And someday, I think, I can see bicycles, snowboards and skis all in the same slopes together,” said Specialized senior design engineer Jason Chamberlain. “I think it’s a viable option.”

The bikes are available for sale.
