Jefferson county couple charged with theft

A Jefferson County couple has been charged in connection with the theft of money from a Roberts area construction company over the past several years.

Jefferson County prosecutor Robin Dunn said Kristi Jo Laird was charged with grand theft for allegedly stealing a large amount of cash from Rhodehouse Construction between 2007 and 2014.Until recently, Laird worked as a bookkeeper for the company.

Her husband, Rodney D. Laird, was charged with accessory to grand theft for knowingly benefiting from stolen cash or from personal property purchased with the money.Dunn said Laird also worked for Rhodehouse Construction for a short time.

According to Dunn, Idaho State Police started investigating the case about five months ago.The two were arraigned last week and will face a preliminary hearing April 17.

Dunn said it was hard to say just how much money may have been taken, since it happened over a long period. Some of the money may have been converted to merchandise, and some of the thefts may be outside the statute of limitations.

Both were released on a cash bond.
