Fashion Fundraiser Benefits The Haven

Austin Kade Academy is a cosmetology school in Idaho Falls. They are hoping to raise more than $13,000 for the have for The Haven shelter Thursday.

Students at the Austin Kade Academy put on an annual show which has grown to several hundred performers and includes, fashion, music and dance.

Dress rehearsal at the Civic Auditorium Thursday is a showcase of elaborate costumes, popular dance hits and fashion.

This year’s theme is rock and roll stars and audience members will see 13 musical numbers. They include hits from Madonna, Lady Gaga, Kiss, Katy Perry and Michael Jackson.

“I’m in California Girls so it’s like her dress kind of modified and amplified,” said Jordn Nefzger, who is playing Katy Perry.

Students from the academy are in charge of the show, design the costumes and pick the organization it benefits.

“It’s really neat to be able to help and give back by doing it this way,” said Kaylee Surerus, a student at the academy.

Across town at The Have, shelter manager Anne Johnson said the fundraiser is a big help to her budget.

“The money we get from them is huge,” said Johnson.

Donations from the show go directly to haven clients.

“To buy somebody work shoes, work pants, do car repairs. If someone needs to get their GED we pay for them to get their GED. Anything someone needs to get back on their feet,” said Johnson.

Back on stage, performers are putting the final touches on their musical numbers and hoping this year’s show makes another big impact on the community.

If you’d like to donate you can donate directly to The Haven shelter.
