Fire destroys Madison County shop

Fire caused an estimated $30,000 damage to a detached shop at 2050 South 5500 West near Rexburg at around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday.

The Madison Fire Department said the fire was threatening nearby structures, vehicles, and haystacks when they arrived on the scene. The fire destroyed the building and two vehicles, but firefighters contained it before it could spread.

According to firefighters, the building was primarily used for storage. They said the property owner was burning ditches earlier in the day, which probably started the fire.
