Locals react to FDA proposed regulations

Customers at local vapor shops are reacting to the Food and Drug Administration’s proposal to add new regulations to electronic cigarettes.

The proposed rules would ban anyone younger than 18 from buying the smoking devices. One local shop called “Big Bam Vapes” said the possible changes aren’t a concern in regard to profits. District Manager Tino Hernandez said he doesn’t sell to minors at his store. He also said the regulations would require him to tell customers what is in his liquid nicotine. He said he already tells his customers about the liquid because he claims it is 100-percent natural. One customer said he only shops at Hernandez’ store in Idaho Falls because of the liquid.

“When I was smoking on different systems that were smaller, I still felt like I wanted a cigarette, but with the liquid that they have, I am completely done with cigarettes now.” said Colton Jensen.

The FDA said long-term effects of electronic cigarettes haven’t been studied. This is one of the main reasons why the agency is working to impose the regulations. If you would like to comment on the proposal, contact the FDA at 1-877-CTP-1373.
