Neighboring cities discuss road improvements

The cities of Idaho Falls and Ammon met Friday to discuss future plans for Hitt Road.

Hitt Road is a major arterial throughout both communities, but in the past neither city has been able to come to an agreement for advancements. Both city councils met to distinguish subcommittees to tackle the four major intersections along Hitt Road. These include 17th Street, Sunnyside Road, 1st Street, and the Target entrance.

The subcommittees will focus right-of-way concerns, cost-sharing and collaborative engineering.

Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper and Ammon Mayor Dana Kirkham said the major focus of these joint councils is to appease the public’s needs as well as making local businesses apart of all conversations moving forward.
