Pocatello proposing changes to nuisance ordinance

The city of Pocatello wants you to comment and bring your questions to the Pocatello City Council meeting Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Gate City is proposing changes to the nuisance ordinance, under which a large number of basic city codes are listed and enforced – and will now be enforced even more.

Snow removal, yard sales and removal of weeds and other plant debris to clear sidewalks are some very basic codes that, if violated, will lead to increasing dollar amounts per citation while the problem isn’t fixed.

The changes come because the city wants to see more compliance with citations issued, essentially cracking down on people who continue to not comply with the code. Under the changes, the city also will see residents comply without having to go to court, instead sending any monies owed from a citation to a collection agency.
