City of Refuge hosts fundraiser

The Idaho Falls City of Refuge Homeless shelter partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps to raise money for the homeless. They held a raffle for a four-wheeler and $250 gas card at DAD’s Truck Stop. Sgt. Jamers Shivers said he is happy he could be there to support the homeless since many happen to be veterans.

“When I came back from Iran and Afghanistan, I had got the red carpet treatment. I had bands and generals saluting me. It’s all because of the sacrifices they made. The least we can do is give our time and our efforts to make sure they’re taken care of, now that they’re in the older generations,” he said.

According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, 12 percent of the adult homeless population are veterans.

The City of Refuge will host another fundraiser Saturday at Fast Eddy’s Paintball field located on 629 W. 100 S., Blackfoot, ID 83221. Registration starts at 9 a.m.
