Bonneville County upgrades ballot system

Voting in Bonneville County could be a lot different now that the county is doing away with its punch card system.

County Clerk Ron Longmore said there was nothing wrong with the old system, although the aftermath of the 2000 presidential election has many skeptical. But since many counties nationwide have transferred to electronic methods, Longmore said it’s hard to maintain the technology.

“The support is just not there anymore for purchasing supplies and ballots and that sort of thing, so we felt like it was time to make the change,” he said.

The county said the new system includes e-ballots and exam, paper-based ballots. They said this will encourage those who are disabled to vote, because this system is easier to use.
