New math curriculum approved in Bonneville County schools

A new math curriculum has been accepted in Idaho Falls School District 91 and Bonneville District 93.

Tuesday night, the Idaho Falls school board voted unanimously to use Math in Focus starting next school year. The district sought the change because its previous curriculum was not up to Idaho Core standards.

As the district transitions to the new program this summer, it’s prepared to help parents do the same.

“There will be more information coming out in the fall, we’ll have what’s called a parent university that will take place, we have one of the consulting authors who will come, meet with people in the community, answer questions, explain the program. We’ll have trainers in August for our teachers and follow-up training during the year,” said Todd Brown, curriculum coordinator for the district.

Bonneville School District 93 voted Wednesday night to also adopt the same math curriculum. The 93board passed the math curriculum vote 4-to-1.
