Rigby Council says yes to hens

The Rigby City Council has cleared a plan that will allow people to keep chickens within city limits.

The new ordinance, passed Thursday, is based on Idaho Falls’ laws. It allows citizens to keep up to eight hens in their back yard. No selling of eggs from these chickens will be allowed.

Unlike Idaho Falls’ ordinance, Rigby will allow slaughter of chickens, since slaughter of some other animals is already permitted.

The law takes effect 30 days after its publication on May 21.
