St. Anthony apartment fire affects 2 families

Two families had to leave their homes after an apartment burned in St. Anthony on Tuesday afternoon

South Fremont Fire Department officials said a caller said he had a fire in his bedroom around 1 p.m. Fire crews were at the apartments owned by Loren Ricks on the 200 block of West First North within two minutes. The renter got out OK.

Although fire was contained to the bedroom, a neighboring apartment was smoke damaged.

The American Red Cross of Greater Idaho said Wednesday its caseworkers helped a family of three and a family of seven (four adults and six children) with food, clothing, infant care items and medical supplies, as well as three nights’ stay in a local motel. Red Cross officials said it is unknown whether the families will be able to move back in immediately. The organization will help them with long-term plans if needed.

If you would like to help these two families, the Red Cross said the best thing to do would be to donate to the area’s Disaster Relief Fund at redcross.org/idaho.

There was no estimate on the cost of the damage to the building, and information on the cause of the fire was not available.
