Mersaidies Fisher wins Distinguished Student Award

Mersadies Fisher loved the wonderful friends she made and being in front of the crowds.

“I like to perform, so I like that I could go out and perform and just shine,” Fisher said. “I think our role is to encourage everyone to come out to the games and support our team and just get everyone hyped up for the games.”

Cheerleading doesn’t have just one season like other sports — it goes the entire school year. Still Fisher has managed to get near-perfect grades.

“Education has always been important to me and especially my family,” Fisher said. “Ever since I was little my parents have told me that I need to keep up with my grades and make sure I do good so I can go far in life.”

Other activities for Fisher have included Red Cross volunteer and participation in 4-H. She worked hard all summer to raise a pig and won the grand champion award.

“It teaches you responsibility because you have to take care of your animal all summer, make sure it eats well so it makes weight, and you have to teach it to be good,” Fisher said.

Fisher feels those extracurricular activities serve a greater purpose than just having fun.

“It gives you something to do so you’re not just sitting at home all the time and you make a lot of new friends and you gain some valuable experiences,” Fisher said.

Fisher feels she’s learned some valuable lessons in her high school years.

“Be outgoing, don’t just stick to yourself, make a lot of friends — it will make it fun,” Fisher said.
