1,000 flags in Freeman Park honor heroes and raise funds

Several locals have come up with an interesting way to raise money and honor heroes at the same time.

Members of the Idaho Falls Exchange Club Foundation spent Friday morning place 1,000 American flags near the Veterans’ Memorial in Freeman Park.

They’re raising money for several causes including the Veterans Group, Idaho Falls Crimestoppers, and Help Inc.

“Eah flag — we’re looking for sponsors, and the sponsor will get a name tag that goes on that flag and it flies the whole weekend with that tag in honor of the hero that’s sponsored for that flag. It’s $30 to sponsor a flag,” said David Smith with the foundation.

The flags will remain this weekend for the Field of Honor Memorial.
