Swimming lessons: Where to go?

Pool season is here and it is time for kids to take the danger out of taking a dip. So locally, where should your kids learn how to swim?

The YMCA in Idaho Falls is a favorite place to go for many parents. Contrary to rumors, the organization will still be offering swim lessons, just not in the usual location.

The YMCA said to sign up for swimming lessons through the organization, you will have to contact the Idaho Falls Aquatic Center. The YMCA usually uses the Reinhart pool for lessons, but the organization decided not to use it this year.

“The YMCA is also offering a day camp where we will have the fun swim. The kids will be introduced to water and be able to play in it. We will still have the fun swim as part of the day camp, but it will not include the lessons themselves,” said Jo Lawrence, Fitness and Membership Director.

Swimming lessons at the Idaho Falls Aquatic Center will start June 9 and 10. Classes start around $35. The YMCA said parents should expect to pay more for swimming lessons through the aquatic center. There are other public swimming pools in our area. The Ammon pool opens the first Saturday in June. It is located in McCowin park. Admission prices were just raised at Blackfoot’s pool to help renovate the facility. The water park, Rexburg Rapids, also offers swimming lessons for toddlers. The park opens June 14.
