Truck crashes into Pocatello dealership

A truck hauling a large tank smashed into cars at a Pocatello dealership on Thursday.

An Energy Transportation Inc. truck from Casper, Wyo., tipped over and crashed into a number of new cars parked at Phil Meador Toyota on Yellowstone around noon. It was carrying a tank about 100 feet long. Police said the tank was empty.

The truck was going 20 mph when a back axle broke off, police said.

The truck was headed through town to the interstate. Its destination was Salt Lake City, police said.

A Phil Meador employee who saw the crash said one of the cars flew 10 feet in the air. Five of the dealership’s cars were heavily damaged.

No one was hurt.

“A lot of metal screeching, a couple big bangs and then just slow-motion, vehicles getting dragged. It was pretty crazy,” said Phil Meador Toyota Sales Consultant Kyle Waford.

In the early morning hours Friday, a crane arrived to help clean up the accident. The road is now clear.
