Progress made in fighting Hell Roaring Fire

The Hell Roaring Fire in the Sawtooth Wilderness was almost completely contained Monday morning.

Fire officials said the blaze nine miles southeast of Stanley had grown to 325 acres, but was 90 percent contained. They expect full containment by Monday night.

About 170 persons are attacking the fire from the ground and air.

Idaho Highway 75 was open Monday, and the majority of trails, campgrounds and recreation sites on the Sawtooth National Recreation Area were open, including those at Redfish, Stanley, Alturas and Pettit lakes. However, much on the western side of the highway was closed directly across from the Williams Creek Trailhead, which includes the Hell Roaring Trail and the southern portion of Forest Road 210 from Hell Roaring through Decker Flat, fire officials said.

Right now there are no structures threatened and no word what started it.
