Grizzly euthanized in Island Park
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game euthanized a grizzly bear on Sunday. The animal, an adult male, had been killing livestock in the Island Park area.
The state agency had the permission of U.S. Fish and Wildlife to kill the bear.
The bear had been trapped by personnel from the Wildlife Services division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The livestock killings occurred on a portion of of Harriman State Park west of Island Park Reservoir.
“Because of the age and history of the bear involved, the decision was made to remove the bear,” Fish and Game said in a news release Monday. “Once bears have learned to key in on a specific food source, it is highly likely they will continue the behavior, even if moved to other locations.”
