LDS church’s international mark on display for conference

The expanding international footprint of the Mormon church will be on display this weekend during a conference that brings 100,000 members to Salt Lake City to listen to guidance and inspiration from church leaders.

Thousands of the attendees will be coming from countries outside the U.S., and it is widely anticipated that one of this weekend’s speakers will deliver an address in a language other than English.

That would mark a first in the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ biannual general conference. Church leaders recently announced that option was available to speakers.

More than half of the faith’s 15 million members reside outside the United States. With more than 1 million Mormons each, Brazil and Mexico are the non-U.S. countries with the most members.

The conference will be broadcast on Local News 8. Click here for times.

Normally scheduled programming, including ABC College Football, World X Games and U.S. Timbersports, will be broadcast on Local News 8 NOW Channel (QIFI 8.4).
