Students pick potatoes to give to food bank
Students at one local school busied themselves in the fields picking potatoes Friday.
As part of a service project, American Heritage Charter School students of all ages picked potatoes at a nearby field to donate to food banks.
It’s something the school does every year in place of having a holiday party.
Last year, the school said it donated more than 2,000 pounds of potatoes.
“I think it’s a very good cause in that all the potatoes are going to help someone,” said Virginia Weitzel, 12.
“It’s a great service project. It’s great for our kids to learn how to serve and to reach outside themselves, and we feel like it’s a really, really important concept that we instill in our children,” said Tappia Infanger, who serves as president of the school’s PTA.
