Electronic cigarette use might not be as safe as you think
E-cigarette use is becoming a trend in eastern Idaho, and it poses a safety concern for children.
Recent reports show more kids are being hospitalized from e-cigarette poisoning.
Nolan Bybee, a local respiratory therapist, said he’s seeing the use of e-cigarette growing fast in the upper valley.
He also believes they might be appealing to nonsmokers because of the different flavors that are offered. He wants to warn parents to be extra cautious to make sure smaller children don’t get a hold of liquid nicotine.
“The CDC has reported that sometimes kids will break those or get their hands on them and they will touch them and therefore that nicotine is either ingested or transferred to the skin causing them to get sick,” said Bybee.
Daniel Nelson of Idaho Vape says the e-liquid he sells has a warning on it to keep away from children.
“This is just like prescription medication — you’re not going to keep your prescription medication out where your kids can reach it,” says Nelson.
Idaho state law dictates electronic cigarettes can only be sold to those who are at least 18 years old.
