Unique program encourages kids to read

Tiebreaker Elementary School has a unique way to get kids to read: Koob Club brings fifth and sixth grade students together to bring books to life.

It’s like a book club. First students read an assigned book and take a test on it. Then they meet in the library for the party. At the party, students have the chance to talk about the book they read and sometimes, even dress up, act out or eat the food discussed in the book.

All students have the chance to participate in this program.

Teachers and students say Koob Club has been an exciting activity.

“I like it when we discuss books because it kind of gives you an idea of what everybody thinks about it,” said Iris Corro, a student in Koob Club.

“I never really would have read that one, but it is actually a really funny book,” student Aubrie Hansen said.

“It’s a wonderful thing for the students, and it’s done with love and care from the adults that participate in it,”said Kent Patterson, the principal of Tiebreaker Elementary School.

Tiebreaker’s Koob Club started seven years ago. The kids came up with the name for the program. A book actually inspired the name for the club.
